19 Mar 2010

Windsor Motors prepare for the first "new generation" Electric Vehicle in Ireland: Nissan Leaf

In response to ESB’s announcement of the introduction of two charging units for the Leaf Electric Vehicle, Windsor Motors are also preparing.

The Nissan Leaf is due in Ireland Spring 2011 and preparations are well under way in all Windsor Nissan Dealers for its arrival. The Nissan Leaf will have zero emissions and will be pure electric.

Our staff will be trained on the intricate details of the car and the charging process. The introduction of additional charging points by the ESB is widely welcomed by Windsor Motors. Charging points will also be available in all Windsor Dealers for customers to use.

According to CEO, Gabriel Keane, "The availability of charging points even before the Nissan Leaf is launched is a very positive step for us. It will certainly help our customers in terms of accessibility but also in terms of confidence that the Government and ESB are fully behind this initiative and are also investing time and money in it".

The Nissan Leaf will be the first "new generation" Electric Vehicle in Ireland and is certainly one to watch out for. As well as the "Green" aspects of the car, it also has many features to suit families and if you are looking for something different.

Nissan to Build Leaf Electric Vehicle in Sunderland

18 Mar 2010

NISSAN TO BUILD LEAF ELECTRIC VEHICLE IN SUNDERLAND

SUNDERLAND, UK (March 18, 2010) -Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., further underlined its commitment to zero emission leadership today by announcing that the Nissan LEAF will be manufactured at its plant in Sunderland, UK.

Nissan LEAF - the first in a range of forthcoming Nissan electric vehicles (EVs) - is the world's first affordable, mass produced zero emission car and embodies Nissan's vision for an environmentally sustainable future for road transport.

Nissan also said that construction of its advanced lithium-ion battery plant, announced last year, will begin this April. The facility, which will be located at Sunderland, will have a production capacity of 60,000 units a year and will start manufacturing batteries in 2012 for both Nissan and its Alliance partner Renault.

Nissan and its Alliance partner Renault are the only automakers committed to mass marketing pure electric vehicles on a global scale and together have announced production capacity of 500,000 units per year. To date, the Alliance has entered into more than 50 partnerships worldwide with countries, cities, organisations and other key stakeholders to prepare the markets and infrastructure for the successful adoption of EVs around the world.

Although zero-emission vehicles are the centerpiece of Nissan's product strategy, the company is also investing in a portfolio of low-emission technologies (called PureDrive) such as clean diesels, efficient internal-combustion engines and hybrids.

California; and in 2000: the Hypermini. We even had an EV test vehicle at the North Pole for 6

projected capacity of 60,000 units each.

- 220 volt power for EV charging is already available in most homes and businesses around the world
- Home charging will provide a "full tank" in 8 hours.
- Nissan is working to foster the development of quick-charging, which takes about 26 minutes
- The average length of time spent at a fast-food restaurant.
- Electric charging offers a cost advantage of roughly 85% vs. Petrol
