Motor Technician

Job Description


MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

To service and repair vehicles.


MAIN OBJECTIVES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To service repair vehicles in accordance with manufacturers’ guidelines.
  • To make written and verbal reports on service and repair activity to the workshop controller.
  • To complete administrative procedures (including warranty) relating to service and repair work.
  • To maintain a clean, tidy and safe working environment.
  • To undertake vehicle road tests.
  • To attend dealership and manufacturers’ training programmes.
  • To assist with the development and training of other staff.

  • SPECIFIC TASKS

  • To carry out service and repair work in accordance with manufacturer and dealership quality standards.
  • To achieve laid down efficiencies and productivity targets.
  • To strictly observe the documentation requirements and administrative/reporting procedures.
  • To strictly observe dealership Health and Safety regulations.
  • To contribute to good team spirit and the achievement of departmental objectives.
  • To take care of dealership equipment and tools.
  • To ensure that the personal tool kit is maintained at an appropriate level.
  • To read and understand manufacturer and dealership technical bulletins.

    Ideal Candidate

    CAREER EXPERIENCE/CAREER TRACK

    • Should be currently working as a technician within a franchise dealership.

    • Should be used to working in an environment where quality, efficiency and productivity are important.

    • Consistent employment record.

    • Technical competence:

    - specific knowledge

    • Work pace/good attitude/discipline/safety.

    • Communication/awareness of the need to communicate.

    • Teamwork


    EDUCATION

    • Time served in a Motor Vehicle Apprenticeship or Modern Apprenticeship.

    • Technical qualification - City & Guilds Motor Vehicle or National Certificate in Motor Vehicle Engineering.

    • Basic level Maths and English (written).

    • Associate Member of the Institute of the Motor Industry (SIMI).


    DEVELOPMENT POTENTIAL

    Should aspire to maintain professional standards and required knowledge of vehicle technology and repair/service techniques.
