Nissan Set to Electrify the Formula E Championship!

Nissan / Nismo have a long history of motorsport success and now Nissan is set to become the first Japanese automotive brand to compete in the FIA Formula E Championship! The Formula E Championship is the Electric Vehicle (EV) equivalent of Formula 1 Racing. Nissan will be joining the electric street racing series in Season Five!

The all-electric racing series is getting a facelift and possibly a radical new design for next season, which starts in late 2018. In Season Five the cars are set to be faster due to improved aerodynamics, a reduction in weight, and more efficient use of the battery. There are rumours of a new battery pack for the cars that will last the entire race, removing the need for drivers to swap cars in the middle of the contest — one of the common complaints about recent models. “As the ultimate expression of the thrill of instant acceleration (0 – 100kph in just 3 seconds) and agile handling that’s at the heart of Nissan zero-emission driving, Nissan is set to electrify the Formula E Championship,” said Nissan’s Daniele Schillaci, Head of Nissan Global Sales and Marketing Division.
