While it is now fairly well established that electric and hybrid cars naturally return not only the lowest running costs but are better for the environment, they are however much more expensive to purchase new than conventional cars. So, when Windsor took a step back to evaluate our conventional market offering we found that – of the economical conventional cars on sale amongst our dealerships – that three made it to the ‘Top 5 Most Fuel Efficient Cars of 2017’ (Carwow, March 2017). In fact, our Peugeot 208, Peugeot 308, and New Model Nissan Micra made it to the top three places in consecutive order! Let us then review each model’s fuel efficiency attributes and what that means in turn for you the consumer:
No. 1 Peugeot 208 – 94mpg (Starting from €17,010)
An elegant looking hatchback exterior with sporty overtones, this energetic drive’s 1.6Litre BlueHDi diesel engine with 75hp and stop-start technology delivers no less than 95.2mpg. That presents an excellent long-term value for money return when one considers that the Peugeot 208 comes with an i-Cockpit interior combining high level technology, such as a compact steering wheel, head-up instrument panel and large touchscreen with park assist and mirror screen safety features. The decision to purchase a Peugeot 208 will inevitably ensure style, safety, and exceptional value.
No. 2 Peugeot 308 – 91mpg (Starting from €21,000)
A supremely sophisticated yet simplified design, the Peugeot 308 gives the impression of having an ability to elegantly glide to one’s destination. This 120hp 1.6Litre BlueHDi with stop-start technology engine will return on average 91.1mpg. The Peugeot 308 provides a powerful yet compact purchase choice while easily justifying the somewhat extra expense considering the satin chrome and black trim interior fitting and the Peugeot i-Cockpit high-end technology features, as with the 208 model placed above.
No. 3 New Model Nissan Micra – 88mpg (Starting from €17,650)
The New Model Nissan Micra 2017 offers an audacious update to a classic design. Now with an angular and uplifting exterior, high-end Nissan Connect technology with ergonomic and luxurious soft-touch silver finished materials on the interior, and an exclusive choice of coloured trims – this fifth generation model presents a conventional yet contemporary addition to the Nissan Micra genesis. Add to that a 1.6Litre, 110hp diesel with stop-start technology engine returning on average 85.6mpg and you have yourself a truly exceptional value for money proposition.
So what does that mean for you the consumer?
For a far off future in which the electric car may eventually reign supreme, the conventional engine when pushed to new fuel efficiency and economic heights presents a ready and practical alternative. Why not take a test drive in a Peugeot 208/308 or New Model Nissan Micra when weighing up the fuel efficiency argument for conventional engines when making your next new car, or indeed trade-up purchase. Contact us and call in to your Windsor Airside Peugeot, Windsor Clonee Peugeot, or any Windsor Nissan dealership today and we will be happy to facilitate a test-drive and/or that all important purchase decision.
