Consumer Reports says, "electric vehicle owners don't need an offer to get 50% off typical maintenance and repair costs from their dealership, it comes standard! These savings are going a long way to offset the upfront cost for consumers".
"Electrics just don’t need as much maintenance as ICE-powered cars, and even though repairs won’t necessarily be less expensive, they are less frequently needed,” explains Gabe Shenhar, associate director of Consumer Report’s Auto Test Center, which specialises in electric vehicle testing. “In addition to being easier and cheaper to maintain, many EVs deliver better acceleration compared to ICE-powered vehicles and don’t pump harmful pollution into our air,” he adds
Consumer Report tests a vehicle over 323,000 kilometres (200,000 miles) as this represents the average service life of a consumer vehicle. Using this it constructed the following average cost per KM for repairs and maintenance data*.
Powertrain | 0 - 80,000KM | 80,000 - 161,000KM | 161,000 - 323,000KM | Lifetime Average |
