For the first time ever, Opel Astra is now available as a plug-in hybrid car at launch with 100% electric models coming by 2023. The new Astra is also available with high efficiency petrol and diesel engines.
“A fantastic car! The new Astra will open an exciting new chapter in the history of Opel compact class models. This will be the first time that we offer both a battery-electric and a plug-in hybrid version of the same model. I am confident that the new Astra and Astra-e will make a powerful impression and attract many new customers to the brand,” said Opel CEO Uwe Hochgeschurtz at the world premiere in Rüsselsheim.
The new Astra features the latest Opel styling cues, most notably, the Opel Vizor. The new Astra launches as a sporty five-door hatchback with a low-slung stance and even more space inside than ever before. The Astra will also debut the latest version of the adaptive Intelli-Lux LED Pixel lights featuring 168 LED elements.
The new Astra steps into the future with a fully digital interior featuring Opels Pure Panel instrument cluster. This offers a pure, more intuitive interface with an extra-wide touchscreen, just like a smartphone.
Opel brand ambassador Jürgen Klopp described the first impressions he got from a pre-production vehicle: “I had the chance to drive a camouflaged Astra plug-in hybrid – really very impressive. Quiet and powerful at the same time, the handling almost like a sports car. And the design: bold, innovative, creative. Well done Opel!”
New Astra is almost the same size as the previous generation but offers an outstanding 1,250 litres of luggage volume with the rear seats folded down. Astra can fit up to five people alongside its practical boot and adjustable boot flooring.
In the cockpit, the driving experience is enhanced with Intell-Drive 2.0 featuring a head-up display, e-horizon technology and 360-degree cameras.
