What does the Budget 2022 mean for EV drivers?

€5,000 VRT Relief for battery electric vehicles extended to end 2023.

Currently, a VRT rebate reduces the cost of change to EV by €5,000. A further SEAI government supported grant of €5,000 is available. While both rebates were due to expire at the end of 2021, the government has now announced that the VRT rebate will be extended until the end of 2023 providing more encouragement to switch to EV!

0% BIK for company car buyers extended until 2025.

For company car buyers, the 0% benefit in kind incentive that has been enjoyed on electric vehicles has been extended until the end of 2025. However, from 2023 this will begin to taper off as the OMV (original market value) of the vehicle will be reduced by €35,000 in 2023; €20,000 in 2024; and €10,000 in 2025.
